Why Wendelmoet?

Wendelmoet is a Dutch woman who sacrificed her life defending her beliefs. After her arrest in 1527, she told the magistrates with no reservation exactly what she thought and was thus sentenced to death for heresy. Her name serves as a reminder of the courage demanded to freely speak one’s mind, and the valor in bravely addressing society’s prejudices and taboos. So often women must hold themselves back, adjusting and conforming to societal norms not aligned with their own views. We want to append our history in the present and march with solidarity and resolve into the future.
